Pagasa declares start of dry season

The dry season in the Philippines  officially began on March 20, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In an official statement, Pagasa reported the end of the Northeast Monsoon known as Amihan, hence the start of dry season.

Pagasa observed the gradual shift of wind direction from northeasterly to easterly over most parts of the country due to the establishment of high pressure area over the northwestern Pacific Ocean, which signifies the end of Amihan.

As the prevailing dry season starts, day-to-day weather across the country will become warmer, though isolated thunderstorms are also likely to occur, said Pagasa.

The public is advised to take precautionary measures to reduce heat stress and optimize water for personal and domestic use.

The state weather bureau said monitoring of day-to-day weather and long-term climate situation will continue despite the ongoing enhanced community quarantine due to Covid-19.
