Maynilad Water Services Inc. has announced a four-day water interruption next week affecting 2.9 million people in its west zone concession area.

The water interruption will pave the way for the company’s massive pipeline replacement as part of the flood control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Metro Manila.

In a briefing on Monday, Maynilad Water Supply Operations Head Engr. Ronald Padua told reporters that this activity will cause water service interruption, ranging from 25 to 85 hours, between October 25, 2021 (Monday) to October 28, 2021 (Thursday) among the company’s customers.

Padua said that the total number of people to be affected by the water interruption stood at 2.5 million or 421,000 water service connections (WSCs), which is 32 percent of the 1.5 million WSC serviced by Maynilad.

Of this number, 60,000 WSCs or 420,000 people in Sampaloc, Manila will have no water for three consecutive days.

This, while other areas to be affected are Las Pinas, Makati, Manila, Paranaque, Pasay, and several areas in Cavite, namely Bacoor, Cavite City, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario.

Padua said that Maynilad will deploy 60 water tankers to the affected areas as well as install 14 stationary water tanks to ease the inconvenience to its customers. In terms of the distribution of water through these channels, he said the priority will be hospitals and medical facilities.

Maynilad will likewise tap the assistance of barangay and local fire bureaus to expand the fleet of mobile water tankers.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines serving over 1.5 million WSCs. Its concession area, the west zone, is composed of the cities of Manila (certain areas), Quezon City (certain areas), Makati (certain areas), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon—all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario—all in Cavite Province.

The company also maintains and operates some 6,831 kilometers of primary, secondary and tertiary pipelines.
