LRT1 app features contact tracing
The Light Rail Manila Corporation's ikotMNL app features a contact tracing function and provides directions for commuters in partnership with Sakay.ph, according to a report by GMA News.
In a statement, LRMC, the private operator of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1), said that ikotMNL's contact tracing feature is automated, anonymous, and privacy-first by design.
Passengers may activate the feature via Bluetooth LE technology, which allows detection of other nearby commuters.
LRT1 passengers who may have been in close proximity to someone who later tests positive for COVID-19 will then be notified by the government when the contact tracing begins.
The LRMC has also partnered with Sakay.ph to offer commuters transit directions in Metro Manila, including riding a jeepney, train, P2P bus, UV express, shuttle, or Pasig River Ferry.
Passengers are also given complete information on the estimated time of travel, and directions and instructions on how to reach destinations via LRT1, along with other modes of transport, including walking.
"We continue to challenge ourselves everyday on what we can do for the Filipino commuter. By leveraging on technology and exploring innovation solutions, we hope to continue raising the bar for rail transport in the Philippines and achieve our vision of integrated mobility," said LRMC president and CEO Juan Alfonso.
The LRMC launched the ikotMNL app last year. It is available for both iOS and Android devices.
