Senate President Vicente Sotto III asked the Department of Health (DOH) to prevent errors in its Covid-19 database which could have implications on the government's response to the pandemic.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III addressed the issue and said the errors pointed out by the UP Resilience Institute were "nominal" and did not compromise the overall interpretation of data and decision-making.

"Maliit nga, mali pa rin. Maliit or malaki, mali is mali so kailangan ingat tayo diyan, dapat the DOH should learn its lesson on this mistake," Sotto said.

"Make sure that our people do not commit the same mistake again because 'yung reliability ng sinasabi, mahalaga para ang IATF ay makadiskarte ng tamang decision," he added.

Earlier in the day, several other senators expressed concern over the "troubling anomalies" raised by UP experts which include a record of a patient who reportedly died on April 24 but is no longer dead in the database the following day.

The lawmakers underscored that accurate data is key to help stakeholders craft effective policy direction amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moving forward, the DOH said it will roll out COVIDKAYA, a new digital epidemiological surveillance information system which will automate the process and lessen encoding errors.
