4 Beach Destinations You Can Visit in and around Iloilo

The province of Iloilo attracts more than a million tourists every year because of its numerous cultural, historical, and culinary attractions. Still, it is perhaps best known for its many beautiful beaches. No matter if you’re looking for a party island where the bar is just a few steps away from the clear waters, a tropical island paradise with nothing but natural beauty in sight, or a hotel in Iloilo that’s close to other seaside tourist attractions, Iloilo has you covered. Are you planning a holiday with a lot of “vitamin sea” in the near future? Here are 4 beaches and islands in Iloilo that you should consider for your next destination.

Boracay Island

One of the world’s top beach destinations, Boracay Island is unquestionably the most famous attraction that’s just a few hours from Iloilo. While some people still see this gem of the northwest coast of Panay as a tropical paradise, it’s really more of a party island these days, with bars, pubs, and restaurants no more than a few meters from where the water laps on the sand. There are plenty of beachfront accommodations that suit all budgets around the island, so you can easily experience the powdery white sand under your feet as you head out of your hotel. In addition to going on a pub and bar crawl, sampling all the food, and trying out typical seaside activities like parasailing and banana boating, it’s also possible to escape the crowd on White Beach. You can do this by heading to some of the more secluded beaches on the island like Puka Beach, Diniwid Beach, and Ilig-Iligan Beach.

Islas de Gigantes

Part of the municipality of Carles, the remote Islas de Gigantes has 2 main islands and a group of islets. Located some 5 hours from Iloilo City, the islands offer visitors pristine white-sand beaches, bountiful seafood, impressive limestone cliffs, lush vegetation, picturesque lagoons, and a number of caves. Here, you’ll find the tropical island experience that you’ve always longed for, including a quiet environment that’s devoid of the common disruptions you’ll usually find in the city and commercial centers. The beaches on the islands are quite inviting, but make sure to go island hopping and see mystical caves as well as the ruins of the Spanish-era lighthouse during your holiday.

Concepcion Islands

The Concepcion Islands, located some 3 hours from Iloilo City, is another option for those who want to stick to the basics and spend a few nights in the comfort of Mother Nature’s arms. In the past, there were only basic facilities like cottages, limited power supply, and shared bathrooms and toilets on Bulabadiangan Island and Agho Island, but there have been developments on the islands recently. It’s now possible to spend the night in the islands in relative comfort and wake up to a glorious sunrise during your stay. Aside from staying on the beaches and maximizing island hopping opportunities, many people also visit the area to take creative pictures on the sandbar, go scuba diving and snorkeling, and discover the simple pleasures of island living, if only for a few days.

Mararison Island

A part of the town of Culasi in the Province of Antique, Mararison Island is also about 3 hours away from the center of Iloilo City. The pristine beauty of the island only caught the attention of tourists after it was devastated by typhoon Yolanda in 2013. The island has since recovered well from the event, and the local government is now hosting projects that will enable its inhabitants to foster sustainable tourism practices. Here, one can find rolling hills that offer expansive views of the sea and sky, a pebble beach that leads to clear waters, and a sandbar where tourists often take pictures to commemorate their stay. Due to its natural formations, the island offers plenty of activities to nature lovers. You can go trekking to see spectacular views, visit an islet during low tide, go swimming and snorkeling, and take a boat tour of the island. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary to do here, you can try tasting sea urchins, which are quite abundant in the area, or see pitcher plants in their natural habitat.

There’s no shortage of destinations for beach-bound tourists in the province of Iloilo and its surrounding areas. To make the most of your trip, research your preferred base of operations beforehand, your transportation options, and all the activities that you can take part in during your stay. It’s also worth it to look into the dishes that you should be trying during your stay. After all, you’ll have easy access to fresh and affordable seafood while in the province.

And if you have any concerns about your upcoming holiday and reservation for various services and activities, don’t hesitate to get in touch with someone on the ground, such as your accommodations provider. You’ll find that they’re more than happy to help you confirm a few things and go the extra mile to make sure you develop a healthy appreciation for the place that they call home.
