2022 Manila Bay rehab budget excludes Dolimite beach

Hindi na kasama ang tinatawag na "dolomite beach" sa mga proyektong popondohan sa Manila Bay's rehabilitation program sa 2022, ayon sa isang opisyal ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), ayon sa GMA News.

Sinabi ni DENR Undersecretary Jonas Leones sa panayam ng ANC nitong Miyerkules, nakalaan umano ang iminungkahing P1.6 bilyon para sa rehabilitasyon ng iba't ibang river systems na konektado sa Manila Bay.

“The P1.6 billion will comprise not for the dolomite, because budget for dolomite was already given to us during 2020 and 2019,” ayon sa opisyal.

Sinabi ni Leones na ang pondo para sa rehabilitasyon ay gagamitin para sa paglilinis ng mga creek at estero.

Bagaman mayroon mga natuwa sa dolomite artificial beach, marami rin ang bumatikos sa naturang proyekto na umaabot umano sa P389-milyon ang pondo na ginawa sa panahon ng COVID-19 pandemic.

Nagbabala rin ang ilang environmentalist sa pinsalang idudulot ng mga dinurog na dolomite para magmukhang "white sand" ang naturang bahagi ng Manila bay.

Ayon kay Greenpeace Southeast Asia campaigner Sonny Batungbacal, hindi malulutas ng mga puting dinurog na bato ang problem ng polusyon sa Manila bay.

Nauna nang sinabi ng DENR na inaprubahan ng Kongreso noong 2019 ang proyekto at dumaan ito sa bidding.

Iginiit din ng ahensiya na walang masamang epekto sa ecosystems ng Manila Bay ang dolomite at hindi rin banta sa kalusugan ng tao ang dinurog na mga bato.
