Voter Registration 2019

2 million voters register for barangay polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has received more than 2 million voter applications in the first five weeks of the registration for the Barangay (Village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (Youth Council) elections next year.

Data from the Election and Barangay Affairs Department (EBAD) obtained on Wednesday showed that a total of 2,013,105 applications were filed from August 1 to September 7.

Of the number, 1,537,616 applications came from those aged 18 years and above, while 475,489 applications came from youths aged 15 years to 17 years.

According to the EBAD, female applicants numbered 1,054,096, while male applicants numbered 959,009.

Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) so far has the highest voter registration turnout with 262,510.

The most number of first-time voters for the youth council was recorded in Bicol at 55,622.

All types of applications are accepted in the current registration period, including those for transfer, change/correction of entries, reactivation, inclusion, and reinstatement of names in the list of voters.

Applications are accepted in all Comelec offices across the country from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays.

Satellite registration is also conducted nationwide pursuant to Comelec Resolution 10549.

The two-month voter registration period started early last month and is scheduled to end on September 30.
