The Commission on Elections is set to remind all local candidates to take down their campaign posters and tarpaulins before the start of the campaign period on March 29.
“We will be coming out with a notice by the end of the week for local candidates to start taking down their materials,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said.
Posting campaign posters prior to the campaign period is illegal, Jimenez said.
The campaign period for candidates for local positions, which includes members of the House of Representatives, will begin on March 29.
Under Philippine election laws, those who have filed their certificates of candidacy will only become candidates at the start of the campaign period.
In a related development, Jimenez said the Comelec would continue to develop cases against national candidates who were violating campaign rules.
“We are on cases build-up so we cannot reveal yet the names of the candidates who have been cited. But we are proceeding with that,” he said.
