Around 3,000 jobseekers who attended the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan job and business fairs across the country on Independence Day were hired, the Department of Labor and Employment announced over the weekend.

The Bureau of Local Employment, an attached agency of the DOLE, said a total of 2,818 jobseekers were hired on the spot at the job fair in 22 sites in 16 regions.

The bureau said about 9,327 applicants for different positions offered at the fair were considered “near-hires,” because they needed to submit additional requirements or take additional tests.

A total of 21,722 jobseekers trooped to different sites nationwide on Wednesday for a chance to be employed by one of the 560 employers who took part in the job and business fairs.

About 226 jobseekers were referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for skills training, while 287 were given livelihood assistance by the DOLE, and 721 were referred to the Department of Trade and Industry for business opportunities.

A total of 1,582 were referred to other participating government agencies, such as the National Bureau of Investigation, Social Security System, Professional Regulation Commission, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Philippine Health Insurance Corp., Pag-IBIG, and Philippine Statistics Authority.
