#MNCAdvisory: Luzon power grid on red alert

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines on Wednesday, April 10, placed the Luzon Grid under red alert due to insufficient operating reserve.

Red or yellow alert means that reserve power is low, Meralco explained.

In case of supply deficiency, corporations and establishments participating under the Interruptible Load Program are ready to use their generator sets to help prevent, or at the very least minimize, incidents of power outage.

Homes can also help prevent brownouts by becoming energy efficient, Meralco said.

Meralco explained that homeowners could do this by refraining from opening the refrigerator when it’s not in use, maintaining the cleanliness of electric fan blades and air-conditioning vents, and unplugging appliances that are not being used.
