203 Caloocan scholars get free chest X-ray
Some 203 barangay nutrition scholars in Caloocan City underwent chest X-ray for free at the Caloocan People’s Park on July 8, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.
The local government said that the program is part of its anti-tubercolosis (TB) campaign. It also aims to determine the overall health status of the scholars.
Dr. Evelyn Cuevas, city health officer, emphasized the need to check the status of the city’s health workers and other exposed groups since they are more susceptible to diseases due to the nature of their work.
“We’re trying to expand our free chest X-ray program to more sectors in the coming weeks. We want our health workers to know that we are also taking care of them, and their own health comes first,” Cuevas said.
According to the local government, the barangay nutrition scholars are city hall employees who visit communities when there are nutrition-related projects conducted by the city.
Earlier, Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan instructed the City Health Department (CHD) to augment its services to improve the city’s overall public health system and programs.
On Wednesday, July 6, the CHD conducted free chest X-ray to students in the Caloocan City Congress and South campuses, following the mayor’s directive.
Malapitan said that the free health services should be localized to reach more city residents.
