Taguig opens Cyber Labs for students

in Millennials / Taguig by 310

Taguig is now home to 10 modern Multimedia Arts CyberLabs after it inaugurated MAClabs all across Taguig – and the students are just ecstatic about it.

MACLab stands for Multimedia Arts Cyber Laboratory. It is the second phase of the CyberLab program, which was launched in Taguig in 2012 to integrate ICT in education among the public schools – elementary and secondary schools – in Taguig City.

MAClabs have been opened in 9 high schools in Taguig -- Signal Village National High School, Pres. Diosdado Macapagal National High School, Western Bicutan National High School, Taguig National High School, Upper Bicutan National High School, Taguig Science High School, Ricardo Papa Memorial High School, Tipas National High School and Bagumbayan National High School. Another facility will be opened at the Sen. Renato Compañero Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School this month.

The CyberLab program involves internationally designed and locally aligned curricula, capacity-building for teachers, adapting classrooms and bringing in state-of-the art hardware. MACLab is a more developed concept using the Mac OS platform and targeted for Senior High School students.

MACLab’s implementation actually started last year with teacher training, renovation, and the delivery of Apple computers, courseware and online learning. It is set to offer courses or specializations in Digital Arts, Web Development and Programming.

The city believes that having speedy, sleek and modern computers within the learning space makes the job of teaching students the ins and outs of even the most complex topics, such as animation, possible.

The MACLab advantage will become apparent for students like Martineza once they enter the workforce. With MACLab and the integrated curriculum that comes with it, Taguig students can become highly demandable with the increasing need for creative IT people in the country and abroad.
